Marriage has always been defined to be between a man and a woman because thats how society has taught us to be the right way. In the present moment, we could see that many marriages are now between couple of the same-sex and that there are many countries now that accept the ritual of marriage to be done there. An example we can take is Canada, it has laws that accept marriage. Many people from the same-sex go there to get married since in the country where they live marriage under those circumstances are not accepted. Many of the countries that don’t permit this is because they say it’s not the moral way. They say that theirs a purpose for a man and a woman to have existence and that by accepting a woman and woman together or the other way we are altering our environment.
If we take for example the movie “Chuck and Larry,” we could see a perfect example of couples of the same-sex going to another country to get married. Taking out the fact that what Chuck and Larry where doing was illegal I ask myself, why couldn’t they be left alone? Is it because the people who worked on the movie dealing with the marriages have some kind of racism over couples on the same-sex? Marriage should be something in which two people are happy of what they are and love each other in a way where they want a certain commitment. Like the essays discussed in class we had couples of the same-sex dealing with the same problems as Chuck and Larry had in the movie. Couples that had to go through a very hard time just by telling the world that they are different from everybody else.
My opinion, is that people should have the freedom to demonstrate their feelings in their own ways. If a woman don’t like a man she should have her reasons and should not be obligated to do what society says is the moral way. Throughout the years this has changed allot, but their still exist a lot of racism on couples of the same-sex. Also, there are many countries that don’t even accepts this and I don’t think it’s fair because when it comes out of the term “love” you should love who you want to love.

Letter to Immigrant

Dear Immigrant,

I have always asked myself, “What is like to be an immigrant?’ I have never been in that position, but if I have one day the opportunity to be one I will take it without a doubt. After having a discussion about immigrants and hearing from diffrent stories of real people, I surely can say that being in your position is not an easy task. In the first place, you entered a different country with different cultures and beliefs and with the risk that you wouldn’t get accepted. I guees all that I’m saying is familiar with you, and I got to tell that you are some brave human being. Starting from scratch is not easy especially when you have to look for a job, and learn all this new things about that new country you entered. Many immigrants just like you keep a secret if their immigrants just because thay don’t want to be discriminated. You should already know about all the discrimination it existes on this, and I think that if you have all the papers to be part of this new country and get legalized properly you sure have the right to be there. Finally, I wanted to tell you that being an immigrant is not something that’s bad. Being an immigrant is more of an opportunity you get in life. You explore and learn new things, and especially you grow more as a human being.

Halloween Day

There was one time where in this solitary and strange place existed a very scary house. It wasn’t just a common house, it was a very old house in which nobody lived. People that knew about the house told everywhere in town that on Halloween days if you pass close to the house you could here screams. Of course they where just rumors, but the curious one’s in that town were the only one’s that had the guts to go and pass close to the house. It was said that nobody had never entered the house but that on Halloween days the one’s that enter never came back.
The kids in town got all dressed up in their costumes and went to look for candy from door to door. Halloween days in that town haven’t been so fun before, but all the stories came true about the strange house in which people that entered never came back. The next day a report came out in the news that a seven year old has been missing since midnight and that the last time they saw him was with his friends going from house to house for candy. All the other kids said that they thought the seven year old had gone to the strange house. Police and people from the town went on the look for this kid, and everyone went in the house to clear out the doubt that the child was inside. Precisely the child was found dead inside the house, the family was devastaded and asked for the house to be torn down. Years passed and nothing else happened, but people in town would have wanted to have torn down the house way before the seven year old had died. Nobody ever passed through that place again, and now is an empty space that by time people will forget about what happened.

Looking at your advertisement on Chanel’s make-up makes me think if the promotion you gave to the make-up was really succesfull. Young woman that don’t have wrinkles or dameges on the face maybe could have bought the product, but when you have more older woman looking at the advertisement that has a young model with an alomost perfect face the only thought that could come to their head is that you have to be young to be beautiful. I think that advertisements that are specially on make-up should be promoted by young models and older models. The reason for all this is when woman look at any advertisement about make-up, they should be able to believe the make-up is certainly “The make-up you have been looking for.”

Make-up has always been an important tool for woman, they always want to choose the base that could cover every wrinkle or any damage on the face. For my advertisement I chose Chanel’s base coat advertisement, with the message: “Finnally the makeup you have been searching for!” In this advertisement we can defenitely perceive that the message goes directly to woman that want to have a good make-up that will cover everything on their face, or for women that will buy it just for the brand name. Furthermore, I could not say this new base coat from Chanel’s is effective because I have never used one, but at the same time I could say that just for the price that it has it should be effective. On the other hand, this base coat maybe is equivalent to a Clinique or Estee Lauder base coat, but we are living in a world in which everything is based on brand names, meaning that woman will want the most expensive one. By looking at the image you can see the face of a model that has little or no disperfections, but imagine all the photoshop they had to do to cover every detail on that model’s face to make the advertisement a selling one. In other words many people by looking at this image will want the face of the model, but reality is that the face of the model, and the message are just their to make impressions on people. Finally, this advertisement was made for insecure woman that could buy any kind of make-up, and most of them will work the same, but since this is “The make-up you have been searching for,” you will need to buy it.

In life we need food to survive, but in life there are people that eat more than what is needed. We usually eat at least three meals per day, but we also like sugars and most of the time in between meals we eat those unhealthy snacks. Food can lead to an addiction and it can be really harmful. People should keep a balance between meals because their lifes are at risk, maybe not know but as time passes all the junk you ate will affect you somehow.
After making a journal for a week on the food I ate it turned out to be really shocking on how unhealthy I eat. First, I started by trying to eat in my house for the journal activity, thinking that maybe I would have less calories to put in my journal, but everything turned out to be the opposite. Eating in your house or eating in any fast foods gives you allot of calories. You can eat a meal that has rice, beans, and a steak and it has over 500 hundred calories! Furthermore, if you eat in fast foods you will have over 1000 calories in your body, thats the reason for people in the United States to have high rankings on obese people. Who wouldn’t like to eat those fries from Mcdonald’s or any fast foods, and most important you don’t have to cook or wait till the food is ready.
In conclusion, it was surprising the amount of calories I eat a day. If I wouldn’t do exercise I would be weighting allot more. I really like eating outside my house, but it is too dangerous for my health. After calculating the calories of the whole week I got more involved on what I was eating because my health maybe could not be at risk right now, but as time passes all the junk food that I eat now will explode in the future.

Hi!

I’m Stephanie Morales from section 064, this is my essay:

My Name

   We have always wondered where our names come from and what they mean. If you ask many people what their name means I would bet anything that they don’t even know or have never imagined that every name has their own history and root. This may sound lame but knowing what your name means or why you are named that way can be really important. Your name can even describe your way of being or your personality just by it’s meaning.
   My name “Stephanie” comes from Greek origin and was taken out from the boy name Stephen. It sounds obvious that the root of my name is Stephen, but I never thought they could be related. I always thought my name had some kind of Italian origin and that it came out from the Italian name “Stefano,” or something like that, it may sound funny but at least I always thought it had male origin. “Stephanie,” has a very interesting meaning for me since it means “crown” having a definition of greatness. Making it in my opinion a more powerful and strong name matching in many ways with my personality. When I asked my parents why they named me “Stephanie” they just told me that it was a beautiful name and that they didn’t have any reason for naming me after that name.
   I conclude, that your name has a lot to do with your personality. For instance the word greatness has been really important for me because I think you should always be great and the best at everything. Something that I’ll always try to be “the best at everything”. No matter the circumstance you should always have greatness within you.

This activity helped us portray an image of confidence towards the class helping us to know better the other classmates. Furthermore, it provide a sense of humor to the class that day. Also, it is really exciting to know that there are fun ways in which we can learn, it helps us to motivate more to the class.
